RED EMMA the opera is based upon an original play by Carol Bolt (1941-2000), who adapted her play as a libretto.  The play is about Emma Goldman, the anarchist and activist.

RED EMMA was commissioned by the Canadian Opera Company, and was written and composed between 1992 and 1995, as part of the Canadian Opera Company’s Composer-In-Residence programme. 

RED EMMA was premiered at the du Maurier Theatre in Toronto, on November 28 and 29, and December 1, 2, and 3, of 1995.
